Don’t like anything about it?

Then take a look at this spectacular white chocolate, cranberry and pomegranate cake. It certainly looks the part and with no alcohol, marzipan or spices, it’s as far away from a Christmas cake as it’s possible to get.

Don’t like dried fruit?

Then try a Tunis Cake (of GBBO fame, no less). This lemony Madeira sponge topped with marzipan and thick chocolate ganache is traditionally decorated with marzipan fruits. If you fancy a bit of bling though, (it is Christmas after all) just use some edible gold stars. Ta-dah!

Christmas cupcake recipe

I don’t like sharing!

Ha! No problem, Ebenezer. If you want something all to yourself, then have a fancy Christmas cupcake. You don’t need to be Nigella to decorate them: just buy some ready-made decorations and watch this quick video for piping the perfect buttercream swirl

Coffee and maple panettone recipe

It’s just too heavy

After turkey and trimmings, a piece of Christmas cake might just push you (and your tummy) over the edge. So how’s about panettone? This airy-fairy foil to our stodgy Christmas classic has all the festive flavour without the weight (and this recipe from Sainsbury's magazine tastes pretty darn delish).

Yule log recipe

I prefer chocolate tbh ...

We do too! And this fudgy pecan Yule log (or bûche de Noël) has to be chocolate at its gloriously gooey best. Get in quick and you might be lucky enough to nab the end bit (it’s got even more chocolate icing!)

Gluten-free Italian lemon polenta cake recipe

I’m going gluten-free

Fancy some lemon polenta cake then? Naturally flourless (it's made with ground almonds) you can use clementine instead of lemon to make it more festive. Alternatively, replace the wheat flour in this delectable stollen for gluten-free plain flour for another GF special.

Chocolate swirl Pavlova recipe

I just hate cake

What?! OK. If you really are one of those types that don’t swoon over sponge, eat pavlova. This one from Sainsbury's magazine looks absolutely lush topped with mango, chocolate curls and physalis (you know, those cherry-shaped orange things), while a decadent cheesecake or indulgent panforte make fabalicious treats too.
