You’ve known about it for weeks but somehow it kept being put to the bottom of the ‘to do’ list. Here’s what to do if you’ve got that charity cake sale tomorrow

Cornflake cakes - if they don't look quite this pretty say the kids made them

Chill out. Forget about the oven altogether and make a chocolate fridge cake, no-bake peanut butter squares or a chilled cheesecake.

Chocolate solves everything. Sandwich shop-bought biscuits together with slightly warmed chocolate spread and finish with a drizzle of melted chocolate.

Make it rustic. Jazz up a simple shop-bought sponge with a lemon icing made by mixing icing sugar with fresh lemon juice. Make sure it drizzles down the sides for that truly homemade look, and top with fresh raspberries before the icing sets.

Go retro. Make chocolate rice krispie or cornflake cakes. They’re everyone’s secret favourite anyway, and if you’re really embarrassed you can always say the kids made them!

Sweet scentsations. Buy cookies and warm them in a low oven before packing in airtight boxes for transport. They’ll be cold by the time they get to the bake sale, but should still give off that just-baked smell to whoever you hand them over to.
