On the decks will be Cadillac Soundstystem and Mikey Dale, wh will ensure the atmosphere in Lower Clapton is sundrenched rather than waterlogged. August is back on track, guys.

Enjoy street food with a side of views at Alexandra Palace

Report image

The dilemma: you want to eat great street food and drink lovely craft beer, but you're allergic to the bearded poseurs and crop-topped elite of east London. The solution? Head north! Alexandra Palace hosts the altogether more genteel Street Food & Craft Beer Festival on Saturday, dishing up local eats, beer and live music with a side order of the city's most spectacular views. Dalston schmalston.

11am to 10pm, Saturday 22 August. Free entry.

Have a cow, man at BrisketFest

Beef up your weekend plans with a visit to BrisketFest, Camden's annual celebration of proper Texan barbecue. No sausages, no halloumi, don't even try asking for a chargrilled aubergine – smoky low-and-slow beef is the only thing on the menu.

But it's being served up by the best: 11 of London's finest meat masters including The Bell & Brisket, Hotbox and Smokestak, all approved by BrisketFest founder and  certified stetson-wearer, Texas Joe. Ticket price includes a sample of all 11 briskets, plus a pint of USA Hells from Camden Town Brewery. And somewhere to have a lie down afterwards, you'd hope.

Saturday 22 August. Camden Town Brewery Bar. Tickets £40. Book here.

Get your bowling buddies together and work up a thirst at Bloomsbury's Lanes' Annual Craft Beer Bowl this Sunday, where some of London's finest craft breweries (they get around, don't they?) will battle it out to win the coveted Golden Pin award while you hit the lanes and the taps. Fill up on pizza from Famous Ray's to help keep your aim straight.

5pm, Sunday 23 August. Entry free. Sign your team up here.

Try to get a table at Oldroyd

Hot new London restaurants might be ten-a-penny, but it's not often you get as much foodie bang for your buck as at Oldroyd, the eponymous new solo venture from former Polpo chef-director, Tom. The diddy Islington eatery opened last month and immediately had rave reviews across the board for dishes such as confit swordfish, lamb and almond meatballs, and stone fruit and brioche pain perdu. And there's a brunch menu, natch.

But the most delicious thing of all? They take bookings! Get in now before word gets out.

Eat sweetcorn (it's in season)

Report image

Everyone's favourite yellow vegetable is back in season, and deserves your attention this week. Heap some sunshine on your plate with one of these insanely good sweetcorn recipes, from cheese-smothered Mexican elote to Asian sweetcorn ice-cream, or head out to try the very special Peruvian-inspired corn salad at Coya in Mayfair. You won't go back to tinned.
