When it comes to picnics, a pack of chipolatas and some Kettle Chips just won't cut it on Pinterest

The sun is out, so it's time to marvel at some of the most amazing creations ever to have graced picnic blankets across the internet.

Because nothing says 'relaxed picnic vibes' like carving tiny critters from your crudités, right?

Fishy pasta salad

Report image

It’s a crime that there isn’t more (or any) blue food around – especially when a few drops of dye can turn a standard pasta salad into a magical seascape so pretty/weird you can hardly bear to eat it. You know what they say; if you love someone, you’ll get up at dawn to carve their hard-boiled egg into a fish. They definitely say that.

Retro devilled eggs are long overdue a revival, while owls are now good dining companions. So who wouldn't want the two combined in a curried picnic snack? A twit, that's (t)who.

Scaredy sandwiches

There's plenty of amazing sandwich art out there, but not all of it's going to look good after a bumpy car journey and a 20-minute trudge through a field. So you need a robust fella like this terrified sarnie – if it comes out a bit shonky, all the better. And it'll mimic your face when the suncream explodes in your handbag.

The most middle class of all the outdoor pests, a ladybird's high twee factor makes it the perfect candidate for a crafty picnic dish. This tomasterpiece also involves every child's favourite gourmet ingredient: seaweed. What could be better?

Cauliflower sheep

So cute and Instagrammable that you'll barely notice the cries of "raw cauliflower and blackberries AGAIN, mother?" in the background.

Fancy pants ants on a log

Report image

Scaling back the effort level ever so slightly, this unlikely celery/peanut butter/raisin classic from our childhood is definitely worth revisiting – but only if you pipe in the peanut butter with an icing bag, the way Mary Berry probably would. Call it 'ants on a chaise longue' instead, if you like.

Puppy hot dogs

Hot diggity dog! Or more likely lukewarm and sweating by the time you've lugged these to the park.

Crab croissant

Breakfast picnic? Get you! The only thing posher than this nippy pastry would probably be a raspberry Danish shaped like a lobster. Leave a few crumbs for the ants now, don't be shellfish.

Radish toadstools

Depending on their age, these adorable toadstool radish salad accessories will either make people think of Enid Blyton or Super Mario. They will also unanimously make people call you a 'fun-guy', which may or may not be worth the hours of radish-carving.

Snail sausage rolls

"Oh yes, we had escargot at our picnic," you will say, smugly.
