While we love the purest form of chip – good ol' deep-fried spuds – there is cause for some deviation with these beauties
Chips. Thick or thin, with vingear, drowned in cheese, smothered in gravy, everyone loves chips. Even those folks across the pond love 'em (although they insist on calling them fries and to add insult to injury when they refer to chips actually mean crisps).
Whilst we will forever praise the perfect potato chip, we've also rounded up some pretty awesome alternatives. You're welcome.
Sweet potato chips
Ok. Sweet potato might not be the most original idea for an alternative chip, but if you've not had these before then you're in for a real treat. These are baked instead of fried, and they go perfectly with a harissa dipping sauce. Get the recipe here.
These totally moreish courgette chips feel alarmingly healthy for something that tastes so good. Plus a few easy swaps can make them vegan, and even gluten-free. Get the recipe here.

Baked avocado chips
Gingered green bean chips
Now a gentle warning, this recipe takes a little bit of effort, but these gingered green bean chips are soooo worth it. Crispy on the outside, tender and sweet on the inside and completely gorgoeous with a wasabi dipping sauce.
Beer-soaked chilli cheese chips
Okay, so these are just run-of-the-mill good old fashioned potato chips, but we couldn't let this list go without some awesome-sounding beer-soaked cheesy chilli goodness. The secret? Soak the chips in water first, this gets rids of extra starch and makes for that perfect crispy/fluffy combo. Until now we only soaked them in water, but soaked in beer? Why on earth not? Get the recipe here.
Serve these with a fabulous homemade garlic mayonaise and you're guaranteed demands for more. These are baked rather than fried, and tossed in some olive oil, herbs and salt and pepper to give them that beautiful crispy texture. Get the recipe here.
Now asparagus purists should turn away now. These beauties are worth a try, rolled in parmesan and dipped in garlic and lemon aioli. We're hooked. Get the recipe here.
Apple pie chips
A completely indulgent rewarding dessert: gorgeous apple pie chips, with warm caramel sauce for dipping! Be still our beating hearts. Get the amazing recipe here.
French toast chips with maple whisky caramel sauce
Okay just one more dessert! This is a delicious twist on Quebec's favourite fast food, poutine. Buttery French toast, maple whisky caramel sauce instead of gravy and white chocolate chips instead of cheese curds. Oh my. Get the recipe here and bring us a portion at once!
