Rain or shine, we're going out! Here are the tastiest things happening in London from Friday 17 July.
It's Friday! It's still summer! And that should be all the reason you need to don your stretchiest waistband and get stuck into the best grub London's food scene has to offer – whether the sun decides to make an appearance or not. Here's what's on the menu.
Give Carousel a whirl
Hop aboard the magical menu merry-go-round at Marylebone's Carousel, the restaurant with an endless rotation of foodie talent. The latest guest to take over the kitchen is chef and food writer Ravinder Bhogal, who will be cooking up an Indian fusion menu from 14-25 July. Think crab and coconut paan, prawn toast Scotch egg with banana ketchup and Keralan goat stew. All diners eat at the same time on communal tables, so you can pretend you're at the greatest dinner party ever. Lunch from £9.50, dinner £35. Book tickets here.
Bag a stool at Barrafina Drury Lane
Tuck your napkin into your collar and join the queue for a third helping of Barrafina, one of London's most beloved tapas spots. Following on from its popular (read: endlessly busy) restaurants on Adelaide Street and Frith Street, the group's newest outpost in the heart of Theatreland opens on Friday 17 July. Expect drama on the menu too, with new dishes developed by Executive Head Chef Nieves Barragán Mohacho alongside some of the finest Spanish meat and seafood in the city. You'll be falling off your stool in delight.
Have a free ice cream
There may be no such thing as a free lunch, but there IS such a thing as free ice cream - and it's coming to you courtesy of Misters Ben and Jerry, the loveliest men on the planet (probably). Flag down the Ben & Jerry's Cookie Core Tour at various sites across London this week, including Camden, Shoreditch, Covent Garden, Marble Arch and Waterloo, to tuck into one of three new cookie-stuffed varieties for absolutely nada. Because 'free' is the tastiest flavour of all.
Hit the beach
The sand between your toes, the scent of fish and chips wafting on the breeze... and the gentle sound of traffic along Chalk Farm Road. Yes, London's premier artificial beach experience is back! Camden Beach at the Roundhouse opens on Friday, featuring 150 tonnes of sand, private party beach huts, a rooftop garden, a pop-up chip shop, a shipping container serving sausages and craft ale, a rum shack and a Stoli lemonade cocktail van. So almost exactly like Great Yarmouth, then. From 17 July to 23 August, free entry.
Take the Moretti Gran Tour
Nobody does summer eating quite like the Italians, so Birra Moretti is recreating an 'authentic' Italian street food experience in London, Edinburgh and Leeds this month. The grand tour will whisk you through the culinary highlights of Naples, Lombardy, Puglia and Sicily quicker than you can say 'Easyjet', with pizza, pasta, arancini, gelato, plenty of beer – and DJs to get la festa started. Because we are still in Hackney, after all. Tickets £10, including two plates of food, two cans of Birra Moretti and a gelato. Book here.
Eat some blueberries
They're in season! One of nature's cuter fruits, those teeny purple fellas make so much more than just good muffins. Find some beautiful blueberry recipes to 'ooh' at and learn why you should never wash them (no, seriously) here.
