Diners are queuing up to get into The Clink. Well, it would be criminal not to go …
Yes, it's staffed entirely by prisoners and yes, it has been voted Cardiff’s best restaurant on TripAdvisor.
The Clink Restaurant at HMP Cardiff was ranked number one out of 946 eateries in the Welsh capital.
One satisfied diner said of the 96-seat restaurant: “The standard set by everyone at this venue would be hard to match in any other restaurant we have been to in recent times.”
While another said the “friendly and informative staff” (there are 30 employees in total training to gain a catering qualification) would put other waiters to shame.
The restaurant, which serves breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, is not a porridge-eating kind of place. Oh no. The à la carte menu includes dishes such as caramelised pork belly, pressed game terrine and spiced poached pears. Yum.
However, you might have to wait a while to get a seat: Homemade enquired about making a reservation and we were informed that diners are required to go through rigorous security checks, which can be quite a lengthy process.
