Apparently, families are now more likely to sit together to share a takeaway than any other meal, including the traditional Sunday roast

Sad news everyone: it looks like the classic family Sunday roast, Friday-night lasagne and homemade birthday teaparty might be resigned to the annals of history.

Around 42% of people under the age of 35 would rather dial in a takeaway than cook for a family get-together as opposed to 61% of folk over the age of 55, according to a survey of 2,000 respondents by Just Eat.

So why is this?

When queried, the respondents answered that work-time pressure means they want to spend as much quality time with their loved ones as possible rather than cooking meals in the kitchen.

But, as we all know, there's not many things more satisfying than feeding your clan with a real home-cooked fare. And that doesn't mean you need to devote a day to conjuring up a four-course feast; there's a world of speedy, delicious ideas that'll go down a treat with your lot …
