Beer beauty: good idea or hopping mad?

Ever wondered what beer shampoo would be like? Us neither.

But if you ever were tempted to dump a brewski on your head in the quest for luscious locks (Catherine Zeta-Jones reportedly uses beer to condition her glossy tresses), you're in luck: Danish beer brand Carlsberg has just launched a male grooming range with shampoo, conditioner and body lotion all packaged in the label's signature green bottles.

Made with barley, hops and yeast, Carlsberg says that both the beer and the beauty products have some vitamin B and silicon in them. Each product from the cosmetic range contains 0.5 litres of Carlsberg beer – we don't recommend drinking it, though.

“The beer is freeze-dried into a powder, and then mixed with organic ingredients in order to create a unique series of products: shampoo, conditioner and body lotion," explains brewmaster Erik Lund.

Time to start rubbing beer on your face

The beer beauty range will be available to buy online for €63.84 (about £45.51) for the set of three products. That's the Christmas pressies sorted then.

In conjunction with Epinion, Carlsberg's research of male grooming habits in the UK found that 67% of men who drink Carlsberg would buy grooming products made with beer, while 43% felt there was a gap in the market for grooming products made especially for men. Oh, guys.

Hang on: does this mean pizza and hamburger shower gel are next? Perish the thought.
