The actress and purveyor of kale-based smoothies lasted four days eating on a food stamp budget
Last week Gwyneth Paltrow, the red meat-free, gluten-free, clean living A-lister, took on the challenge of eating on a Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program budget of $29 for the week.
After posting her food stamp shop on Twitter, which included gluten-free tortillas, limes, kale and an avocado (to name a few), the internet then ate her alive.
To add insult to injury, Gwynnie failed miserably after just four days.
“My perspective has been forever altered by how difficult it was to eat wholesome, nutritious food on that budget, even for just a few days – a challenge that 47 million Americans face every day, week and year,” she wrote on goop, giving herself a C- for effort.
Surprise surprise, she's really bad at living in the real world – well, her Christmas gift guide, which included a $995 cashmere blanket, gave us a hint.
She defended herself against critics of her shopping by saying “avocados and limes are cheap in southern Carolina.
“I’m not suggesting everyone eat organic food from some high horse in the sky. I’m saying everyone should be able to afford fresh, real food.
“And if women were paid an equal wage, families might have more of a choice in the grocery aisles, not to mention in the rest of their lives.”
However, she failed to mention the $85 gourmet barbecue hosted by David and Victoria Beckham she then went on to attend.
Well, at least her quitting has shone a light on SNAP and equal pay, which was the whole point, right?
