What the shell? Chocolate lovers are outraged over changes to Creme Egg recipe
Just as we were getting used to life without chocolate coins, Cadbury’s have delivered another chocolate covered blow.
The confectionery giant has quietly changed the recipe of the sickly-sweet Easter treat, the Creme Egg.
Kraft Foods will now be using a "standard cocoa mix chocolate" for the shell instead of the classic Cadbury’s Dairy Milk, according to The Sun.
A spokesman for Kraft told the paper: “It’s no longer Dairy Milk. It’s similar, but not exactly Dairy Milk.
“We tested the new chocolate with consumers. It was found to be the best one for the Creme Egg, which is why we’ve used it this year.”
As the sad news spread, Creme Egg fans across the twittersphere were shell-shocked (sorry). One user called it a “terrible start to a Monday” while another wrote: “we need a march for the #CadburyCremeEgg scandal. This affects many of us.”
If you thought only a slice of chocolate cake could ease the pain, you’d be wrong. There are still some rather scrumptious things you can do with a Creme Egg.
Here’s all you need to know …
This is an egg and soldiers remix that will knock the socks off the original. Take some thick slices of brioche, caramelise them in a pan with some butter and sugar, cut into soldiers and dunk in a Creme Egg. Hello heaven.
No, this isn’t a Creme Egg wrapped in sausage meat – it’s sooo much better. You’re looking at a Creme Egg surrounded by chocolate brownie and coated in biscuit crumbs. Pure genius.
How do you like your eggs in the morning? Behold the chocolate lovers breakfast. Halve a Creme Egg, place over slices of chocolate carrot cake and drizzle with molten chocolate. Oh. Yeah.
Is it a dessert or a drink? Well, you are looking at both. Bring some Easter cheer with this vodka, white chocolate liquor, crème de cocoa and Creme Egg mix – you can even use the inside of the chocolate treat to create a gooey rim. Mmmm.
It may be hard to imagine something as eyewateringly bad for you but, hey, it’s cold outside and you deserve a treat, right? Yes, they’re probably as disgustingly sweet and delicious as they look.
