This wobbly pint might be difficult to gulp – it's made entirely from apple juice jelly and makes a perfect surprise for Father's Day
Question: what looks like a tasty pint but goes wibble wobble?
Answer: Dad's apple juice jelly pint, of course
This clever mix of apple juice and gelatin, chilled in the fridge and topped with a realistic apple foam 'head', is foodie trickery at its finest. It's definitely one to rival all the Dad jokes he's so fond of telling.
Makes 1 pint
You will need:
For the jelly:
- 500ml cold apple juice
- 1 sachet of gelatin
For the foam:
- 100ml cold apple juice
- half a sachet of gelatin
Step 1: mix it up
This is where the magic begins. Measure out 500ml of apple juice in a measuring jug and mix 3 tbsp of it with a sachet of gelatin in a large bowl. Cover with cling film and pop in the microwave for 1 minute, stirring half way through. Remove from the microwave (mind your fingers on the hot cling film) and stir again to make sure the gelatin is fully dissolved.
Step 2: chill out
Add the rest of the apple juice to the bowl and stir well. Transfer to your measuring jug and pour into a pint glass. Leave in the fridge to set overnight.
Step 3: add the foam
Make your apple foam about 20 minutes before serving. Measure out 100ml of apple juice in a measuring jug and mix 3 tbsp of it with half a sachet of gelatin in a bowl (as you did in Step 1). Microwave for 1 minute, then add the rest of the apple juice. Whisk vigorously (elbow grease required) for about 2 minutes until you have a bowl of frothy foam.
Take your set pint of apple jelly out of the fridge and scoop the foam on top – enough so it looks like a pint head. Set in the fridge for 15 minutes then serve up just in time for lunch.
And there you have it – one totally awesome 'pint' for a totally awesome Dad. See the recipe in more detail here.
Tip: make two jellies for a funny 'cheers' moment. Happy Father's Day Dad.
