Tonight marks the start of series 6 of The Great British Bake Off and with it the beginning of our 11-week-long inability to socialise on a Wednesday evening.
But before you settle down on the sofa for your dose of Mary, Paul, Mel and Sue, stop. Think: do you want to be sat devouring an hour of icing sugar-smattered telly without baked goods of your own?
Unlikely. Especially when cakes are the star of the show.
But while the spanking new contestants will be whipping up Madeira cake (too plain) and Mrs Berry's classic frosted walnut cake (too fussy), we'll be going for something with the just-right amount of flavour and difficulty.
