Barbecue popcorn: it's so much easier than you think. Promise

Forget microwave popcorn. The best way to make that fluffy, salty-sweet snack is to pop it on the barbecue.

Serves 2

You will need:

  • Kitchen foil
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 75g popping corn
  • A barbecue

Method:

  • Take a square of kitchen foil about 60 x 35cm in size.
  • Place the oil and the popping corn on top.
  • Fold into a loose parcel, sealing the edges, and give it a shake.
  • Place on the coolest part of the barbecue for 5-10 minutes until the popping stops. Done!

Whipping out a bowl of homemade popcorn will make people think you're the ultimate domestic goddess – even if it's just you eating it alone, on the sofa. Tempted? Try these flavours …

Chocolate popcorn pancake stack

OK, so this one's cheating. It's allowed. Sprinkle some shop-bought toffee popcorn on top of chocolate-covered pancakes and no-one will notice that you didn't pop your own corn. Shhh!
