Even if you can't make it to Paris on a Friday night for a negroni, whisky sour cerise or a French old fashioned, here's how to whip them up in your very own kitchen

Fancy spending Friday evening sipping an expertly mixed cocktail while staring dreamily at the Eiffel Tower in all its splendor? 

 

Of course you do. Sadly, much as we wish we could, we can't arrange it. Apologies. But what we can give you is this trio of oh-so-chic Parisian drinks recipes, extracted from terribly elegant new book by Doni Belau, Paris Cocktails (Hardcover, RPP £16.99, Cider Mills Press).

 

Hopefully, these will curb your cravings for the city of love.

 

Bonne nuit! 

1. The French negroni

Makes 1 drink
You'll need:

  • 15ml gin
  • 30ml Suze
  • 30ml sweet vermouth
  • Orange twist

 

Method: 

Add the liquid ingredients in the order given to a tall glass. Serve on ice with an orange twist. 

 

2. Whisky sour cerise

Makes 1 drink

You'll need:

  • 45ml sweet whisky 
  • 30-60ml fresh lemon juice, depending how much zestiness you like
  • 1.5 tsp sugar syrup (200g caster sugar dissolved into 240ml hot water) 
  • 1.5 tsp Luxardo Maraschino liqueur 
  • Glacé cherries, to garnish

 

Method:

Add all the liquid ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake, strain and serve over ice. Skewer the cherries on a cocktail stick, and place over the rim. 

 

3. The French old fashioned

Makes 1 drink

You'll need:

  • 60ml whisky 
  • 4 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 tsp sugar 
  • 1 splash soda water
  • 1 slither of orange zest
  • 1 glacé cherry 

 

Method: 

Combine the whisky, bitters, sugar and soda, and serve in a glass garnished with the cherry and orange zest.
