When you've got enough festive nuttery to sink a small ship you need some creative ways to use them up
How to crack 'em
Surely the absolute biggest pain in the bum when it comes to nuts is the cracking factor. If you haven't already landed yourself in hospital attacking a hazelnut with a sledgehammer there are some handy ways you can get to the good stuff.
The soaking method
This works particularly well for brazils and pecans but will aid you with pretty much any nut. Pop a load of them in some chilled water and approach gently with some pliers or your handy ol' nutcracker. They should open a charm.
The freezing method
If you can't for some reason be bothered to run the tap bung the whole lot into the freezer and you've got the same effect.
The walnut hack
If you fancy raising some impressed eyebrows with your mad life skills this yuletide then why not try this magic trick: cracking a walnut with another walnut. Thrilling indeed!
All you have to do is line up the cracks on two walnuts and there you have it. They shall open like a little wee door.
Once you've got your hands on those precious kernels there are tons of things you can do with them.

Or maybe roast them with a bit of maple syrup and salt. Add chilli for a spicy kick. Perfect with an ice cold beer. Aaaah.

Or change things up with festive figs and walnuts on a sweet pizza as imagined by genius Will Torrent. Trust us, it works.
And here, just because, is a gif of Gerard Butler cracking a walnut with his bum. You are quite welcome.
